A Birth Annnouncement
On the third Sunday in advent, we light the shepherd’s candle, reminding us of the shepherds who were the first to hear the announcement of Jesus’s birth. Jesus was born in Bethlehem with a mission, and that mission was primarily to die. At the appointed time, Jesus was crucified for our sins. Jesus was judged so we would not have to be. The angels sing of God’s glory because everything that God has promised and done for man is culminated in the coming of his son. God did not announce the birth of His son to the world. He first announced it to lowly shepherds who then spread the word concerning the savior. God has left the announcing to us.
