Puerto Rico: Day 5

This morning the teams headed off to their work sites. We continued VBS at Jorge’s house where the children learned the story of Jesus calling the disciples to be fishers of men. They did games, songs, crafts, and snacks, the team also put on a skit.

Team member Amiyah says this about today’s VBS, “What I liked at VBS today was the craft project. We put three fishermen in a net with the story title as a caption. I also liked the skit. I enjoyed watching some of the leaders act as characters from the Bible story. I also enjoyed the songs Sarah taught the kids. I really like the energy and happiness.”

The construction team was at the rehab farm for the second day. In addition to working on the farm, the team spent time in fellowship and encouraging the residents, who expressed appreciation for their being there.

In the afternoon, we spent time at an orphanage sharing songs, coloring, playing and prayer. Tonight we were warmly welcomed at a prayer service at the Mayagüez EPC church at Jorge’s house. Will shared a meditation based on Acts 4:1-20 on the topic of being willing to suffer hardship and persecution to proclaim salvation in Jesus’ name. The team shared two songs. And Andy, Jim and Romi shared wonderful testimonies of the work of Christ in their lives. Afterward the church graciously hosted a reception where we got to try some typical Puerto Rican food.

P. S. We also got to experience a couple of Puerto Rican challenges: small mudslide at camp partially blocked the road and power outage this afternoon and tonight.
