Partnering Together to Impact the City

At Eastminster we LOVE our city! We want to see the Lord bless and redeem Wichita, and we want to be an active part of seeing it thrive. One way we do this is by partnering with Washington Elementary School, which serves families in the 259 district. Our goal is to serve and bless the teachers, staff, kids and families at Washington and display the love of Jesus in tangible ways. Our local missions team works closely with Washington leadership to identify the school’s unique needs and then seeks to meet those needs however we can.

Become a Lunch Buddy

We have been invited to come to the Washington campus and connect with kids through the Lunch Buddy program. Lunch Buddies are paired with a student and go to the school once per week throughout the school year to eat lunch. Lunch Buddies spend time with their matched child, eat lunch, play games, read books, play on the playground, and simply love, support and encourage that child. Men and women of all ages can serve. Become a Reading Buddy

Join us this fall as we launch a Reading Buddy program at Washington School. You’ll be paired with a student in 2nd or 3rd grade, and meet weekly with them to practice their reading skills. The 259 School District has set a goal for all students to be proficient in reading by 3rd grade, and we want to support them in their efforts. You’ll have a great time reading books together as you serve as a positive role model to the students.

Contact Wendy Ferguson at the church office or email wferguson@eastminster.org to be added to the Reading Buddy List. We will offer a training after Labor Day with the School Librarian. You’ll also apply as an official volunteer in the 259 district with the link below.
