Bible & Book Studies for Women
Eastminster offers day and evening studies for women. Invite a friend or neighbor to join us! Each study is a fun, joy-filled place where women dare to build authentic relationships, and where you will find truth and encouragement and grow to love God and serve others. Join us as we bear burdens, share joys and delight in the Lord together as sisters in Christ.
For more details about our studies, contact Kat Anderson at 634.0337, ext., 242, or kand...@eastminster.org (click to reveal).
Mondays
Paul: 90 Days on His Journey of Faith by Beth Moore
9 to 11 a.m. in the Parlor. Begins January 9 – May 7.
Special Note: Child care provided for $5 per child per session.
This study is continuing from fall, but all mothers of young children are welcome to join us as we delve into Paul’s life with Christ. This study is a journey through Paul’s dramatic life revealing that the only way to ensure victory is to go in fully
abandoned, shells of our prideful selves, willing to be thought a fool in order to receive what can only be won by total surrender to God’s plans and priorities. To walk by grace, to stand in freedom, to never lack for expectation: to live is Christ. This class also spends time learning and discussing Christian parenting of young children.
Facilitated by: Debi Davis and Anne Allen.
Book Club
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meets the second Monday of the month in the Library Conference Room. Begins January 9.
This group of women meets monthly to discuss a book we have read. On January 9 we’ll discuss Walking Across Egypt by Clyde Edgerton, and on February 13 we’ll discuss The Reason For God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism by Timothy Keller. On March 12 we’ll discuss Two Nations Under God: Why You Should Care About Israel by Tom Doyle. You are welcome to come to the discussions as you are able. Leader: Kay Jones.
Tuesdays
Women in Action
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Fireside Room. Begins January 17 – May 1.
Service dates: January 31, February 28, March 27 and April 17.
Women in Action is back! Please join us for a refreshing look at Paul through Beth Moore’s study To Live Is Christ: The Life and Ministry of Paul (revised edition). Explore what it means to experience true freedom in Christ, to rest in Christ and to have Jesus live your life for you. Deb Coe will teach the lessons in this study with Beth Moore’s DVDs and workbook. Beth Moore explores Paul’s servanthood and desires for you to feel the challenge to follow Paul’s example just as he followed the example of Christ.
Facilitation Team: Deb Coe, Sheryll Gibbens, Jan MacLeod and Susan Miller.
Piece Sewers
7 to 8:30 p.m. Meets the first and third Tuesday of each month in C-15. Begins January 3.
Whether you are an experienced quilter or just interested in learning about quilting, you are welcome! Projects will vary from individual to group projects that benefit others.

Wednesdays
For Mothers of Young Children: Faith-Based Parenting
9 to 11 a.m. in the Parlor. Begins January 11 – May 9.
This winter we will look at how faith-based parenting makes a difference in the lives of our children and how we can make simple changes, embrace Scripture and take part in the role of shepherding God designed for us. Join us as we explore how faith-based parenting can bring us and our children closer to Christ.
Facilitated by Janie Buchanan.
Martha-Priscilla Circle
9:30 a.m. Meets the second Wednesday of the month in C-15. Begins January 11 – May 9.
This year’s study is The Parables of Jesus. Jesus’ parables were a significant part of his ministry. It is so important for us to seek to understand them through their historical context, within the context of Jesus’ teaching and ministry, and within the context of the gospels in which they are found. Come join us as we explore the parables and their application in our Christian walk.
Leader: Gail Juell.
The Writings of John
10 to 11:30 a.m. January 11 – February 15, February 29 – April 11, April 25 – May 30. Library Conference Room
Join us as we continue our in-depth study of the Writings of John. He wrote five New Testament books in his advanced age (85 - 95 A.D.) focusing on Christ’s teachings, deity and spiritual realities. John emphasized the divide between faith and unbelief, calling the Church to confident fidelity in Christ. This is an inductive Bible study approach and requires at least a six-week-unit commitment. Carol will teach Bible study methods, and personal individual study will be required. Because this offering is unlike any other Bible study approach currently offered at Eastminster, please contact Carol Amstutz for more information before attending.
Rebecca-Ruth Circle
1 p.m. Meets the second Wednesday of the month in C-13/14. Begins January 11 – May 9.
This year’s study is The Fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. Join us as we explore each of these characteristics.
Leaders: Jean Wellshear and Nancy Keeling.
Thursdays
Hannah Circle
9:15 a.m. Meets the first and third Thursday of the month in Fellowship Hall. January 5 – May 3.
The first Thursday is a common interest program and the third Thursday is a lesson. This year Hannah is studying The Fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Special note: Child care is available by contacting Barbara Osborne (634.0337, ext. 215) as well as “Growing the Seed of Love” for older children through kindergarten.
Leaders: Julia Shetlar and Jennifer Groen.
Abigail Circle
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Meets the second Thursday of the month in the Student Center. January 12 – May 10.
This year’s study is Miracles of Christ. Join us as we explore the meaning and purpose of six miracles of Jesus. Through the study of each miracle, we will discover they were more than random acts of kindness and divine power. They are tied to the saving work of Christ in our lives today. Our missions projects this year include Brotherhood Presbyterian Preschool, Bread of Life, Habitat for Humanity and others.
Leader: Kedre Mellor.
James: Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore
7 p.m. in the Parlor. Begins January 12.
James, Jesus’ own brother, started out as a skeptic. See how one glimpse of the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. Topics in this study include: joy, hardship, faith, reversal of fortunes for rich and poor, wisdom, gifts from above, single-mindedness, the dangers of the tongue, humility and prayer. Join us as we take a first look at Beth Moore’s new study and see how mercy triumphs.
Facilitated by: Jane Yourdan and Ann Ramseyer.
