GO Local: Union Rescue Mission

Our current GO Local featured opportunity is with the Union Rescue Mission. The Union Rescue Mission exists to love and serve homeless men in the city of Wichita through providing shelter, food, recovery programs and much more while sharing the hope of Jesus.

Opportunities to Serve

Every Bed, Every Day  -  Similar to a prayer walk, a person (or a group) walks through URM’s main dorm room, touching each empty bed and lifting a prayer for the homeless man who will sleep there that night. Volunteers also make prayer cards and notes of encourage to leave on the beds.

Mentors - Mature Christian brothers are paired with men in the Mission’s New Beginnings life-transformation program as the men near completion of their stay at the Mission. Mentors are expected to spend an hour or so each week with their mentee.

NewLeaf Book Warehouse – Volunteers sort and catalog books to be sold through the Mission’s social enterprise.

Meal Servers – Volunteers (18 years and older) assist in serving the evening meal to the homeless men who stay at the Mission’s overnight shelter.
