Epiphany Sunday
1.4.12
This Sunday, January 8, is Epiphany Sunday. What does that mean? It represents the sudden shining of divine light in the human darkness. The star in the East drove the magician kings to the light. They chose not to stay stuck where they were.
They came bearing gifts for the Christ child: gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gold was fit for a king. Frankincense represented the priesthood of Christ and myrrh the embalming source for the One who would die to save us from our sins.
The manifestation of Christ as King of Kings, Priest and Savior for the whole world has universal appeal. It is a substantial reminder that the supreme power lies not in the atom but in God’s love for us in Jesus Christ.
Linda and I celebrate the gifts of this great congregation. The evidence of the Spirit of God at work here is everywhere. Thank you for being instruments of God’s healing peace to us.
The Christ invites us to bring our gold, frankincense and myrrh, our worldly goods, our innermost thoughts and our suffering hearts. I urge you to commit as much of yourself as you can to as much of God as you can. You can trust God for that which you cannot see.
