Steve Falke
Director of Technical Communications

How did you first come to Eastminster?
I was hired as a production consultant to work with the technical team and 11 a.m. praise team in the fall of 2004. From there I worked again as a consultant during Holy Week 2005 and was hired as the part-time technical director in June of 2005. My first full-time year was 2007.
What do you love most about your job at Eastminster?
It requires me to use all of the talents God has given me from construction to maintenance to technical engineering and media production and not just one specific area of expertise so I am blessed to have a lot of variety in my day to day work.
Other than Jesus, who has had the greatest impact on your life?
In my early life, my mother and father had enormous impact on me and then later in the teen and early adult years my two grandfathers were specific personal and spiritual role models, but as I have gotten older I have come to truly appreciate the significant impact my wife, Julia, has had on shaping who I have become as a man.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
That Evel Knievel was a childhood hero of mine. I liked the fact that no matter how many times he crashed and burned he always got back up on the bike again and always looked ahead to the next big challenge.
What are you reading right now?
Besides the tons of e-mail I get every day, I am currently working my way backwards through the Old Testament trying to figure out the 400 years of silence between Malachi and Matthew.
What is one of your proudest moments?
Pride is a challenging thing and something I have to deal with a lot, but I was especially pleased that God was able to use me to lead my wife, Julia, to Christ a couple of years after we were married.
What is your favorite food?
It would be a much shorter answer if you asked what food I liked the least – hominy/grits. Never really got the texture quite right in my mind so I don’t much care for these, but I do love most all other foods.
What’s your favorite movie? Favorite musician?
I seem to change my favorite movie like I change clothes everyday, but I did really enjoy the new Megamind movie with Will Ferrell and Tina Fey. I also have many favorite musicians that run the gamut of style and substance, but for sheer musicality and listen ability on the instrumental side I would have to say Phil Keaggy and, as far as vocalists go, I enjoy listening to Lenny Leblanc for both his range and subtlety. My favorite composers tend to be modern film composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman, but my favorite classical composer’s are Mozart for his edginess and Bach for his sheer melodic beauty. My favorite “band” is also somewhat of a moving target and with me has more to do with their production value and technical expertise than their substance, but I never get tired of listening Steely Dan (Donald Fagen and Walter Becker) and, as for the Christian Genre, I love PFR (Pray for Rain) and FFH (Far From Home) and I also enjoy many of the new worship songs put forth by today’s current crop of well-known worship leaders. I think it is good to see many of them more often than not getting back to some of the early roots of worship music and really letting the spirit lead them. I hope more people will eventually get the chance to hear the original writing from some lesser-known worship leaders like Dale Huntington as well.
Is there a Bible verse God is currently using in your life?
1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
What’s your biggest challenge?
Maintaining the proper balance between work and rest and how to make the most of either one.
Tell us about your family:
Julia and I have been married for 20 years and we have had a variety of cherished pets over the years. Currently we are owned by three cats, Peepers, Trinity and Georgie, all of whom are convinced that they are the alpha cat and the other two are just there to cater to their every whim.
