How did you first come to Eastminster?
I first became a part of Eastminster when I started attending 242, our college and young adults group, in 2007. When I graduated from college in 2008, Eastminster was one of the first places I applied as they had a communications position open. I started working here in July of 2008 and then began attending church here when I helped start ekklesia in April 2009. I've loved every minute I've been a part of Eastminster!
What do you love most about your job at Eastminster?
I love getting to tell the story of Jesus to a lost and dying world. So much of communications is storytelling. Whether that’s through a graphic, a flier, a web page or the written word, I get to communicate about the gospel constantly. How cool is that? Plus, I love everyone I work with. We have one amazing staff here at Eastminster!
Other than Jesus, who has had the greatest impact on your life?
My mom. She is the most devoted follower of Christ I have ever met. She constantly has a good attitude, even when her life is not perfect or she’s going through something difficult. She’s also just a blast to be around and we have so much fun together doing our favorite activities: shopping, talking, eating or laughing (and preferably all four!)
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I write a blog. I don’t really say anything of much importance on it, but it’s a lot of fun for me to do and is sort of my “escape” from life. It’s mostly about home décor, with some fashion, wedding planning and friends and family thrown in.
What is one of your proudest moments?
When I won an ADDY award for an ekklesia advertisement I created. But all the credit goes to my boss, Gail, who taught me everything I know! : )
What is your favorite food?
Ice cream. Although I have transitioned to Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt lately to keep the calories down. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out! My favorite is pistachio yogurt with cheese cake bites and almond slivers. Yum!
What’s your favorite movie? Favorite musician?
My favorite movie ever is You’ve Got Mail. As in I can quote every single line. And I'm not kidding. From beginning to end I could literally recite that movie. Obsessive? I prefer to think of it as therapy for my soul to watch that movie for the 4,567th time : )
As far as music goes, I love country and indie folk. Sugarland, Joshua Radin, Peter Bradley Adams, Feist, Iron & Wine and David Crowder Band are some of my favorites.
Is there a Bible verse God is currently using in your life?
1 Peter 3:8-17
"Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For,
"Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear their threatst; do not be frightened." But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."
What’s your biggest challenge?
In my work I think my biggest challenge is communicating to a large and diverse group of people. Sometimes it’s hard to promote an event or initiative so that everyone in the church is interested, from students to parents to grandparents. Not to mention we have to keep those outside the church in mind too. It can be a tough job but I’d never trade it! My other challenge is fitting everything in the bulletin every week : ) I prefer to think of it as a puzzle to sharpen my thinking, editing, writing (and squashing) skills.
Tell us about your family:
I am married to the man of my dreams, Matt Browning. We were married June 17, 2011, and I couldn’t be happier! My dad, Roy, is an optometrist here in town and my mom, Pam, works part time with him plus taking care of her family. I have one younger sister, Sarah, who just graduated from Butler and is an incredible artist.
