How many years have you been a member at Eastminster?

27 years

What committee(s) do you serve on at Eastminster?

Community and the Mission Study Team. In the past I was the director of Vacation Bible Study several times, was the director of 11 a.m. Children’s Church, taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school for a number of years, drove the senior citizen bus on Sundays, and worked at the church in many other ways primarily related to our youth. Recently, I have not served on any church committees due to some family health problems.

What other groups or ministries are you active in at the church?

I co-facilitate a women’s Bible study on Thursday night with Jane Yourdan, and have co-facilitated the summer women’s study for the past two years with Rhonda Johnson, and last year with Rhonda and Jane Yourdan. We attend Wednesday Night Edge, varying classes.

What is your profession outside of Eastminster?

I have been teaching at Wichita Collegiate School for the past 18 years. I teach Values in Action, a middle school course that is an ethics/community service course. Until this year, I also taught Old and New Testament in middle school and also have lead middle school Bible studies for various ages (mainly 5th through 8th) for about 15 years. In the past, I also taught Positive Steps in Lower School, a drug prevention/character education course. Prior to having our children, I was a CPA, working in the accounting and auditing world.

What leadership/volunteer positions in the community do you hold?

I am a community volunteer for many places including organizations like Boy’s and Girl’s Club, Special Olympics, Envision, Wichita Collegiate School, Assistance League’s Gingerbread Village. I take my Values classes out to volunteer at those organizations and many others.

Family information, hobbies and interests.

Rob and I have been married for 34 years.  We have three children:  Mary Ruth VanDever living in Kansas City and married to RyanVanDever, Robby Ramseyer living in Newton and married to Charlie Dower Ramseyer, and Alan Ramseyer, who will graduate from University of Tulsa this spring. No grandchildren yet, but we have four grandpuppies!

My primary hobbies are reading, walking, cooking and volunteering, with and without my Values class.

Is there a Bible verse God is currently using in your life?

My favorite for years has been Psalm 118:24, but I would have to say what is guiding me at this transitional point in my life is Romans 12:6-8:

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.  If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.  If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently;  if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
